Fractional Sales Management FAQ

What is fractional sales management?

Fractional sales management allows companies to get the same benefits of hiring a full-time sales leader, but at a fraction of the cost. Also known as "sales management as a service", or "SMaaS", it provides the temporary and part-time services of professional sales consultants to help manage your company's sales performance, sales processes, and sales strategy. Fractional sales management is a great investment, as it's typically more affordable considering the enormous additional expenses associated with hiring regular employees, such as benefits, bonuses, and employment taxes. In addition, the flexibility of fractional sales management makes it easy for businesses to control their expenses. Read our blog post to understand the
benefits of fractional sales management.

What is the difference between fractional sales management, sales consulting, and sales management as a service (SMaaS) ?

Fractional sales management and "sales management as a service" are basically the same things. They typically involve part-time leadership by an experienced sales executive who integrates into your management team to help drive strategy and day to day execution. A Fractional Sales Manager works as a temporary sales leader who makes real-time decisions in collaboration with company leaders, and carries some task ownership.

Sales consulting often provides limited specific advice to company leadership, usually tied to one or more specific projects. A Sales Consultant generally offers guidance and recommendations from a higher level with little or no direct tactical involvement.

As an example, a Sales Consultant might advise you to do your own weekly sales meetings, whereas a Fractional Sales Manager will actually participate in or actually drive your weekly sales meetings.

Rev Sales Consulting blends fractional sales management with sales consulting by offering 3 and 6 month terms for fractional sales management, as well as a 1 month term, which is more of a sales consulting solution. It’s important to note that the terms fractional sales management, sales consulting, and sales management as a service are often used interchangeably and can all mean the same thing.

What is it like working with Rev Sales Consulting?

Think of it as U.S.-based outsourced sales management. Working with us is like having a part-time, executive member of your staff who helps lead and improve your sales organization, or helps launch your new sales organization if necessary. It just so happens that this part-time person will have over 20 years of sales experience, having held positions such as Vice President of Sales, Director of Sales, and Sales Manager.

Once I’m signed up, what can I expect?

  • Once your agreement is signed, Rev Sales Consulting will dive into an assessment to understand your business and sales goals in detail. This is mostly done through a lot of Q&A, observation, and analysis. The depth and duration of your assessment will usually be 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the size and complexity of your company or sales team.

  • Once your assessment is completed, we'll meet with you to present our findings along with recommendations to build or improve your sales team. Your feedback is then factored in to convert our findings into an actionable plan. This is all to avoid managing your sales team and goals without a conscious strategy or direction.

  • Next, we act as a senior management member of your sales team throughout the duration of your term to help you move toward plan execution. During this time, we also work with you to track progress and make adjustments as needed.

  • Finally, we wrap up your term with a progress review to determine how much positive movement or improvement has been made since the beginning of your term.

Will Rev Sales Consulting generate leads for me?

No, Rev Sales Consulting is not a lead generation company. While some of the best lead generation companies focus on prospecting and qualifying leads for your company, Rev Sales Consulting is focused on the more strategic aspects of your sales program. We help companies create a sales strategy, optimize sales processes, and improve sales team performance, and we can manage your sales team for you. We don’t do your prospecting, selling, or lead generation. To avoid losing sales, you should have a solid sales strategy and processes before you start generating leads.
